Please understand that your giraffe won't appear immediately.
I need to approve it first to make sure it's not drawn on a computer.

Thanks for understanding.

Everyone can (and should) send in a giraffe!

But you can't use a computer to draw your giraffe!
And you have to make it yourself.

No store bought items or photographs from zoos/safaris.
Anything else goes! And you can create as many giraffes as you want!
You can read more about these rules here if you want to.

You can send me your giraffe in several ways:

Upload
(please use this if you can)
Upload a photo/scan of your giraffes

The easiest way to submit a giraffe is to upload it here! But it won't appear on the website straight away.
I need to approve every giraffe to make sure they're not breaking the rules.

If you have another giraffe, please feel free to upload it now as well:

Woha! Two giraffes? Thank you! Do you have another one?!?

Unfortunantly you can only upload three pictures at a time,
but once these are done, you can add three more!

Can you email me a link to some of your comedy? Cause this is some funny shit man! It's soooo hilarious to think you're that old. Hahahahaha. Wow. You, sir, are funny. I think I'm in love with you. Can you tell? Please email me a youtube clip with your stand-up routine. I would love to see it! This little piece of comedy is solid gold so I'm really looking forward to seeing the rest of your material! I love you!!

This, my friend, is not a number, but you're really close! I believe in you!!

(This might not be the city you're from so feel free to change it)

(This might not be the country you' re from so feel free to change it)

E-mail is optional.
I'll email you a direct link to your giraffe when it's out on the site and when I've reached a million

You need to give me at least your name and country. Everything else is optional.

E-mail
E-mail your giraffe to me

Please try to upload your giraffe before you email it to me. Click the text right above that says "Upload". It's much easier for me and your giraffe will be online sooner! If the upload fails you can send your giraffe to onemilliongiraffes@gmail.com. But try uploading first!

Please remember to write your name, age and location somewhere on your drawing or email!

Twitter
Twitter your giraffe to me

You can use @1000000giraffes to send a picture to me. And please twitter about this website, so it spreads around to everyone! If you don't understand any of this, then nevermind. Email it instead!

Please remember to write your name, age and location somewhere on your drawing or tweet!

Regular mail
Mail your giraffe to me

If you're want to send your giraffe to me, please try to collect a few yourself before sending it all the way over here! Ask your wife/husband, girlfriend/boyfriend, parents, children, siblings, grandparents, neighbours, colleagues and strangers to join in on the fun. The more the merrier!

Please use A4 paper (regular size)
and write your name, age, location on the same side as the giraffe(s).
It makes my life much more easier. Then send them to:

Ola Giraffe Helland
Jaergata 13
4012 Stavanger
Norway

Please remember to write your name, age and location on the same side as your drawing!
Please understand that it might take a while before I get a chance to scan your giraffes. I will do it eventually, but if you don't upload them yourself it might take a few days before I get to it. Uploaded giraffes will be published more or less instantly.

I reserve the right to use your submission however I want. I probably won't do anything else than uploading it to this site, but if this project becomes a success I might print a book or something stupid like that.

Please send in your own giraffe!

Giraffe of the day #243
Today's giraffe of the day comes from Germany and it's drawn by Elisabeth. A giraffe on a Möbius strip! Such a clever idea!

Katharina: Yeah, really very cool idea! - and the neck is almost as long as twice the length of the strip! (written yesterday)
Ragnar: This, or one like it, got discussed on another forum i'm on, and some joker suggested that it must be hard to stop counting. Keep turning the strip long enough, and you've got your million already! (written yesterday)
Drop me a line if you have something cool to say!

(written yesterday)

Giraffe of the day #241
Today's giraffes of the day come from South Africa and they're drawn by Isa Bruwer. I recently learned about anatidaephobia, which is the fear that somewhere, somehow, a duck is watching you. I think it's a very funny phobia and these giraffes reminded me of it!

Giraffe of the day #240
Today's giraffe of the day comes from USA and it's drawn by Wildleaf. I'm a PHP programmer so this one might be just for me. This is the code for drawing 25 ASCII giraffes. Which isn't allowed, since it would be made on a computer. But writing the code and giraffe drawing for hand, that's more than okay!

Today's giraffe of the day comes from Sweden and it's drawn by Niklas. I'm an old school kinda guy and I love listening to vinyl records, so this giraffe really made me happy! Notice the yellow sun and green tree! Brilliant!

Jayelle: There's a lot of talent that shows on this website! (written 6 days ago)
One Million Giraffes: I know! I can't believe how talented people are!! (written 6 days ago)
Ragnar: Maybe he should have tried to say hujambo instead. ;-) (Swahili for 'hello' according to Google Translate.) (written 5 days ago)
One Million Giraffes: It's actually just "jambo"! Don't know why they added the extra 'hu' at the start there. And jambo is the word youth use to greet each other. "Habari" is the old school way... I traveled around Tanzania a couple of years ago and picked up some Swahili... (written 5 days ago)

Kolma Puschi: Yes, nice picture :) (but it's not the first "giraffe of the day" of this kind) (written one week ago)
One Million Giraffes: Oh. Woops! I can't keep track of all the giraffes anymore! So sorry... (written one week ago)
Kolma Puschi: I don't think, that anyone is worried about that - at least Ivan :) I just wanted to point out, that there was a similar "giraffe" ^^ (written one week ago)
Herk: Every "little prince" reference is a good one in my book :) (written one week ago)

One Million Giraffes - the game!
I've noticed that the random-page is the most used feature on the website, so I made a game which is basically the exact same thing, except you have to guess the age of the drawer, which I think is more fun!

I feel I need to explain why I made this game. It's actually not just for fun. The server costs are really starting to build up momentum now and I need to find new ways to pay for them. That's why there are ads on this game. I hate that I have to do this, but I see no other way around it. And again: I do not intend to make money on this. If I ever make more money on the ads than the servers costs, I will remove the ads. I promise.

The first time you go to the game you get instructions on how to play, but it should be pretty simple. I've designed it so that you only need your keyboard when you play. Just type in what age you think the creator is and hit enter. You'll get a result in a blue box and a new giraffe on the left. Then you just type in what age you think the new giraffe is and that's pretty much it!

There's even a counter that will calculate how good you are at guessing the age. And get this: Whenever two people have guessed the age of your giraffe, you can go to the "ID-page" of that giraffe, like this one, and just below the picture you'll see the average age people think you are! Pretty cool, huh?

I've asked friends to play around with this and it's actually much harder than I thought it would be. We've had quite a few laughs because of this game and I really hope you like it!

Eva: I'm right almost every time... But after about 15 right's I figured there might be something wrong? (written on the 1st of February)
One Million Giraffes: Really?!? Maybe you are just good... But I'll look into it... (written on the 1st of February)
Eline Mangen: Yeah, that happened to me too. I was right every time, and it had stopped counting beneath the box. So I couldn't see my average anymore! O: (written on the 1st of February)
One Million Giraffes: Oh no! Then there's something wrong!! Arg. I'll see if I can find the error... (written on the 1st of February)
Herk: Well, obviously it's fixed. I got 4 out of 45 right but I miss by 10 years in average. I tend to think people were younger than they are based on their giraffes. Also: I really think the "built" giraffes are a lot harder than the drawn ones. I love the game :) (written on the 1st of February)
Ragnar: Just one little problem: Many of the giruffians have written their age on the drawing, which makes it pretty easy to "guess". Apart from that I think the most interesting bit is going to be looking at your own drawings and finding out how old people think you are! (written on the 1st of February)
One Million Giraffes:
@Herk: When I get a tag system going I will remove the "built" giraffes from the game. Untill then; just hit refresh if you don't want to guess on those giraffes...

@Ragnar: There's nothing I can do with the ones that have written their age on the drawing. But if you don't want to "cheat" you can just hit refresh and you get a new one! (written one week ago)
Rianne: Haha, it's already addictive :) But it's pretty hard. I'm on average 10 years off... (written one week ago)
Kitiamara: I got lucky - it asked me for the age from people I "stalked", like Jacques, Ehouse, Jeanelizabeth or Tegum and Ediktonia, where I know the ages :D Therefore I guessed right 8 times within 45 guesses :) Average 6.2. (written one week ago)
Blackcat: Hey, that's a really cool feature. I don't mind you showing ads on your page. It would be too sad if the project would not go on cause you had to much losses because of it. (written one week ago)
Jen Sloan: Fun game - I got to guess my own age :) (written one week ago)
Jayelle: I love it! Though I am a terrible guesser. At one point I was averaging over 12 years off, but managed to get it to about 10 years. Like Herk I am guessing much younger! (written 6 days ago)
Ragnar: Jen, they say you are only as old as you feel. So how do you feel? ;-) (written 6 days ago)
Renata: It's really great! Even if after 44 guesses I'm on average 12.7 years off and I only once I guessed exactly right age... ;) I have one little suggestion. I had the same giraffe two times... ;) (written 4 days ago)
One Million Giraffes: I'll try to fix that, but it's a kinda hard problem to solve... I'll see what I can do... :D I'm glad you liked it! (written 4 days ago)

Giraffe of the day #236
Today's giraffes of the day come from Brazil and they're drawn by Henrique Bean. I guess giraffes shouldn't move around to much before the spot paint dries. It looks like hard work to paint all those spots on all these giraffes!

Jayelle: He needs to get some spray paint! (written on the 1st of February)
Ragnar: I think spraying spots would be kind of hard. He could use stencils, but then the spots would be similar, and they are supposed to be all different! (written on the 1st of February)
Kitiamara: In our kindergarten we did a special kind of art, using a sieve and an old toothbrush :D Put paint on the toothbrush and smear it over the sieve. It leaves funny kind of "freckles" ;o) (written on the 1st of February)
Ragnar: Freckled giraffes. Now there's an idea... (written 6 days ago)
